Answers To A Few Of Our Most Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. I already have a cake included in my reception catering package. Can I still get my cake from Whyte Icing?
You will need to check with your caterer. Most reception locations allow you to select your own Wedding Cake Baker even though you are purchasing their 'package'. We will work with your caterer or reception coordinator to arrange for the delivery and set-up of your cake.
* Many Reception Locations Do Not Allow "Outside Food" To Be Brought Into Their Facility Unless It Is From A Kitchen Specifically Licensed For Foodservice. Whyte Icing Specialty Cakes Meets These Requirements
Q. Where is the Bakery? Can I come visit your shop?
We are located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. At this time, we do not have a 'Storefront Bakery' that is open to the public. We have a very small studio kitchen that is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
All consultations are by appointment only. For convenience, Jennifer often travels to the Bride's home (within 30 minutes of Johnstown) or schedules these meetings at a nearby coffee shop.
If you need to send us something (deposit, fabric swatches, design ideas), our address is: Whyte Icing Specialty Cakes, PO Box 311, Johnstown, PA 15907
Q. Do you accept Credit Cards for Payment or Deposits?
No. We accept Cash or Check.
Q. I LOVE this cake design but it doesn't match my theme & colors! Can I change it?
Absolutely. We specialize in making CUSTOM cakes. Every cake is a new and unique challenge. The pictures we have available here and in our photo albums are just a small sample of the limitless design possibilities when we create your personal cake. We will adjust the size of the cakes to provide enough servings. Feel free to bring pictures from magazines or books, fabric swatches, flavor suggestions, and ideas for a delicious centerpiece that your guests will remember.
Q. Can I reserve the date, and order my cake later?
Yes. We accept Wedding and Large Event Reservations up to 12 months in advance. (A deposit is required to hold a date.) Your Consultation should be scheduled 3 - 6 months before the wedding.
Smaller cakes (such as a Birthday) require a minimum of 1 week notice, subject to date availability.
Q. Can you deliver and set-up my cake?
We deliver ALL of our cakes. Delivery within 10 miles of downtown Johnstown is free. The fees for other locations vary. We generally deliver an hour from Johnstown, including: Altoona, Hollidaysburg, Ebensburg, Indiana, Bedford, Ligonier, Somerset and the surrounding areas. There may be exceptions, please ask. A minimum order may be required
Q. Do you make cookies? Can I get a cheesecake?
At this time, our focus is primarily on Wedding and Specialty Cakes. We may offer cookies in the future. We do not offer cheesecakes.
Q. Do you have Ornaments available? Can I rent a Waterfall or Chocolate Fountain from Whyte Icing?
We do not keep cake ornaments such as a 'Bride &Groom' or 'Monograms' in stock. If you provide an ornament, we will be happy to use it in the overall planning and design of your cake.
Currently, we do not provide fountains. Check with your caterer, event decorator, or reception facility for the rental of these items.
Q. My Friend~Aunt~Neighbor bakes cakes as a hobby. Can I have them make my Wedding Cake?
You will need to check with your reception hall first. Many Reception Locations Do Not Allow "Outside Food" To Be Brought Into Their Facility Unless It Is From A Kitchen Specifically Licensed For Foodservice.
Whyte Icing Specialty Cakes Meets These Requirements.
Also, you will need to make sure your Friend/Aunt/Neighbor has experience working with large, tiered Wedding Cakes. When you make a cake for, say, 100 people, there are structural issues, especially in hot weather!
Remember, as the centerpiece for your reception, the presentation of your Wedding Cake is as important as any of the other services you are hiring Professionals to handle for you.
Q. Can I get Fresh Flowers on my cake?
We can place flowers on the cake that have been provided by you or your florist. It is your responsibility to work with your florist to assure the flowers are safe to use on a cake that will be eaten.
